October 5, 2015 (Fort Worth, Texas) – Camp Fire First Texas was selected as one of eight Camp Fire councils nation-wide to receive a tablet-based curriculum. Camp Fire national is expanding its collaboration with Samsung Electronics America, Inc. to deploy a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) curriculum to kindergarten through eighth graders. This program will allow students to explore STEM careers and concepts using new Samsung tablets.

Through hands-on activities, kindergarten through fifth grade participants in Camp Fire First Texas after school programs will learn about design and engineering concepts, STEM careers, and communicating their ideas to others within their communities more effectively. Samsung is providing Camp Fire First Texas with 30 Samsung Galaxy Tab® 4 Education tablets so each child can participate efficiently. The curriculum has been customized to incorporate Camp Fire’s Thriving framework, and will serve as a well-rounded balance between technology and the organization’s focus on outdoor education, nature studies, and homework assistance. Samsung’s new tablet technology will allow youth to experience STEM in a whole new way.

“We are thrilled to be a part of this exciting project,” says Nikki Roe Cropp, Director of Program Quality. “Not only will the curriculum help strengthen STEM knowledge, but the use of tablets will make it all the more relevant and interesting to the youth we reach. The whole project will serve as an excellent enhancement to our after school programming—one that that will surely produce positive experiences and additional opportunities for our youth.”

The curriculum will be piloted starting in October at two Camp Fire After School sites, Diamond Hill Station and Diamond Hill Elementary. Beginning in spring 2016, the program will roll-out to other after school sites outside of Tarrant County.
