FORT WORTH, Texas – Sept. 30, 2014 – Camp Fire First Texas invites volunteers to plant daffodils on the banks of the Trinity River Nov. 1 and 2 as part of Project Daffodil. This community service project a key component of the organization’s Centennial Celebration and will leave a lasting legacy for decades to come.

Daffodils will be planted on the banks of the Trinity River in the northwest part of downtown Fort Worth. Once planted, daffodils re-bloom annually and are known to have a lifespan of up to 70 years. Camp Fire First Texas expects to host more than 400 volunteers during the two-day event. Volunteers of all ages are welcome and encouraged to participate in the free family event.

“We’re grateful that the community has expressed such interest in the event and are certain that community volunteers will help make Project Daffodil a huge success,” said Camp Fire First Texas president and CEO Zem Neill. “As they re-bloom every year, we hope the daffodils will serve as a symbol of Camp Fire’s roots in the Fort Worth community and become a lasting beautiful site along the Trinity River.”

Streams & Valleys, a Fort Worth organization dedicated to the continued beautification of the Trinity River, will partner with Camp Fire to host Project Daffodil. “We’re thrilled to be a part of an event that not only helps bring new life to the Trinity, but also celebrates the outstanding work that Camp Fire First Texas has done in our community for 100 years,” said Stacey Pierce, Streams & Valleys Executive Director. “Project Daffodil will be the largest single group planting to date in the Fort Worth area!”

About Streams & Valleys
Streams & Valleys, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that plans and coordinates recreation enhancements, beautification efforts and public recognition of the Trinity River and its tributaries in Fort Worth and Tarrant County through volunteer recruiting, fundraising, development and event programming.

Streams & Valleys was formed to save the river after the flooding and levee construction of the ’50s and ’60s had reduced it to a garbage dump. Today, more than 70 miles of trails and 8,000 new trees later, Streams & Valleys is still the only nonprofit organization committed to saving, sharing and celebrating the Trinity River.
