Hi friends! I’m Jessica, Business Manager and Assistant Camp Director at Camp Fire Camp El Tesoro.
I started with Camp Fire in May 2022 and very quickly fell in love with working at camp. I have enjoyed seeing the progression over my two summers at Camp El Tesoro, and I’m so excited about the things to come in 2024!
Switching Things Up
For summer 2024, we plan to switch things up a little bit to give campers more activity options. We have been doing activities by having 4th grade and above campers choose three activities they want to participate in. One of my main jobs is taking their choices and creating a schedule for each camper.
We have realized that a minor flaw prevents all campers from being guaranteed a spot in the activities they want. We have a couple of activities that have concrete limits. For example, horseback riding is limited by our number of horses. Ceramics is limited by the number of chairs and table space in the ceramics cabin.
Our new idea to help fix this flaw is to have students pick six activities instead of just three. Doing so will put campers in three chosen activities for Monday and Wednesday and another three on Tuesday and Thursday.
Looking Deeper at “The Plan”
The activity sheet campers receive will have a handful of options for Monday and another handful of options for Tuesday. Campers will choose their top three choices for each day, giving them more opportunities to have an open spot in one of the limited-space activities. The option will be available if a child wants to do the same three activities on all four days.
So what about Fridays? Instead of the regular activity schedule, we will do an all-camp or unit activity on Friday mornings. Doing this will be a good time for campers to have some fun last moments with their new camp friends before everyone heads home. This time will help wrap up a super fun week!
We want campers to have the best experience possible, and we believe that this new plan will only add to their experience.
