Total Solar Eclipse Extravaganza Family Camping Weekend

Get ready for an astronomical experience like never before!

Camp El Tesoro is not just any camping destination – it’s in the path of totality for the upcoming total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024. As the moon passes in front of the sun, Camp El Tesoro will have prime views of the eclipse, with the sun completely blocked out for a small period of time. This celestial event is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, as the next total eclipse in the U.S. won’t occur until 2045. Join us for a family camping weekend that coincides with this rare cosmic spectacle.

During the solar eclipse weekend, we’ll host exclusive activities and adventures designed to make this celestial event even more special. From guided eclipse viewings to astronomy workshops, we’ll ensure you make the most of this unique opportunity.

Overnight and Day Pass Options Available

Spaces are limited for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Gather your friends and loved ones, pack your sense of adventure, and join us for a weekend filled with campfire stories, outdoor activities, and the breathtaking spectacle of a total solar eclipse. Camp El Tesoro awaits, where memories are made under the stars!

The duration of totality in Granbury will be 2m 6.8s.

Come with family or friends!

Sample of Weekend activities*

Each cabin will attend a variety of activities as a group. Our camp activities director will coordinate a “taste of camp” so your group will experience all that this weekend has to offer. You will be provided with your cabin schedule upon arrival. Alternate activities will be offered for those group members who are too young or not interested in participating with the activity blocked for your cabin.

Special Solar Eclipse Activities on Monday, April 8

Eclipse Storytime Adventure: An interactive storytelling session that explains the science behind a total solar eclipse in a fun and engaging way. Incorporate props, puppets, or even shadow play to make the celestial event come to life for the young audience.

DIY Pinhole Projectors: We’ll create pinhole projectors to view the solar eclipse safely. We will provide materials like cardboard, aluminum foil, and tape and teach them how to make a simple projector that projects the sun’s image onto a surface, allowing them to witness the eclipse safely.

Eclipse Shadow Play: We’ll use outdoor space to create a creative shadow play activity. Participants can use their hands to cast shadows on a screen or pavement, observing how the shapes change during the eclipse. This hands-on experience helps them understand the concept of celestial alignment.

Eclipse Art Extravaganza: Embark on an artistic adventure with our dedicated Camp El Tesoro program staff! Equipped with paper plates, premium black paint, and an array of captivating gray shades, our skilled team guides children through the creation of their very own solar eclipse masterpieces. This hands-on experience not only encourages self-expression but also reinforces crucial astronomical concepts. Join us as our talented staff transforms ordinary paper plates into extraordinary celestial works of art, fostering both creativity and cosmic curiosity!
