Come Find MORE at Camp El Tesoro

come find more stickerA sharp smell of fresh cut grass, distant laughter and “ker-splash!” at the pool. Ripping open a letter that sings of home, softly talking while playing cards or painstakingly making sure each thread of a friendship bracelet is “just right”- these small moments are the glue that bind a summer at camp. Since 1934, Camp El Tesoro‘s overnight camp has inspired youth in all moments, quiet and loud.

Get ready to hike a shaded trail, splash in the creek, sing your heart out around an evening campfire and share time with trusted friends.

El Tesoro overnight camps provide an immersive experience for campers to explore the outdoors, make new friends and awaken their sense of adventure. Intentional moments at camp encourage youth to step out of their comfort zone, try something new and find more:

Find MORE Growth at Camp

El Tesoro’s overnight camp has inspired youth to let their curiosity be their guide – to nature, their world and what they can accomplish.

Age-appropriate activities develop confidence and growth mindsets in our campers while they build new skills and make new friends in the outdoors. The wide range of activities from horseback riding and archery to crafts, woodshop, swimming and kayaking create opportunities that show each camper they can achieve whatever they set their minds to.

Camp El Tesoro is located on 223-acres where the Brazos River and Fall Creek meet in Granbury, Texas.

The camp has welcomed five generations of campers for almost 90 years. Campers stay in beautifully modern cabins featuring full restrooms and electricity.

Our highly-trained diverse staff members lead youth through active exploration, building connections and reflection while finding more time to laugh, listen and grow together in a safe and enriching environment.

OUR STAFF

Our trained staff make the difference. Many have attended El Tesoro as campers themselves. Prior to campers arriving, all staff participate in an intensive week-long on-site training where they learn to help each child thrive at camp by allowing them to explore their personal interests, make healthy choices, develop social skills and have fun. Camp Fire programs offer an environment where youth can learn through active exploration and interaction with program staff trained to observe and engage youth to support, extend and clarify learning. Each year Camp El Tesoro builds a team of more than 50 counselors, activity specialists, support roles, and supervisors to create the best possible summer for our campers.

The staff is always very friendly and supportive. The camp director remembered my child the minute he crossed the bridge and gave him a big welcome back – this is very impressive considering all of the children that come through each year!

The girls had the most amazing time last week. They came home with an entirely new kind of self-assuredness that was incredible to see. I swear they looked six months older when we picked them up! 😂

We also learned how important it is for parents to practice giving kids the chance to be independent, too. Some day they will be grown and flown, as much as I try to put off thinking about it—and I know full well that transition will be a lot harder for me than them. I felt a surprisingly deep well of peace at letting them venture so far out, knowing they’ll be okay (and I will be, too).

We understood on a theoretical level what the benefits of camp would be for all of us, but the lessons that became immediately resonant can’t be overstated.

The girls are counting down until next summer already!

Thank you so much for everything y’all do!

My daughters have attended Camp El Tesoro 5 and 8 consecutive years, respectively. Every year they count the days until camp. And when I pick them up they are energized with tales of new friendships and adventure. What a wonderful program. Bravo.

I used to get homesick my first few years at camp. It never stopped me from having fun, though. Now, when I’m at home, I get camp sick. I miss being at El Tesoro when I’m not here.

Camp El Tesoro has given me such great memories when I was A kid. I was counting down the days till summer came. 4 weeks in a row wasn’t enough for me! An now that my daughter has gone for her first Summer. It’s looking like she is going to be the same way. Its such a great way to get the kids outside and unplugged. Not to mention, it is a great way for the kids to start gaining some independence and learn some personal responsibility.

As we get older we are told that there isn’t any magic in the world. That it doesn’t really exist. But I don’t think that’s true. Camp is magic. The things we do, the friends we make, the buildings and being close to nature – it’s special here. It makes me happy, and that’s magic.
