Fort Worth, Texas (April 2, 2018) – Camp Fire First Texas has posthumously awarded Sandra Lamm with the Rosie Mauk Award. Lamm, who passed away on March 22, dedicated her life to improving early childhood experiences for our community’s youngest citizens. Camp Fire’s Rosie Mauk Award recognizes significant contributions to the improvement of child care or conditions which affect children, and is given in honor of Rosie Mauk, who served as campaign chair during the addition of the early childhood education programs to the First Texas Council.

The award was presented during Camp Fire’s annual Early Childhood Conference on March 24 and was accepted by her friend and colleague, Kathy Livingston. The conference was dedicated to the memory of Sandra Lamm.

“Sandra’s impact in the Fort Worth early childhood landscape has been felt by many. Through her role as a teacher, parent counselor, child care center director, research associate, professional development provider, vice president of programs or vice president of early childhood division work at Camp Fire First Texas, from New York to Texas, she has made a difference. This award is a small token of appreciation for her lifelong dedication to our youth,” said Lyn Lucas, chief program officer at Camp Fire First Texas.

Lamm has led the way for better early childhood experiences for children through her work with: Child Care Associates managing subsidies for child care and training for local teachers, Camp Fire First Texas leading an early childhood division focusing on resource and referral and child care professional development for the community, the City of Fort Worth coordinating programs to impact dual-generational early childhood development and the Early Learning Alliance (ELA)—where she led a grass-roots effort supported by the National League of Cities to build an early childhood system that could support high quality programs for children in Tarrant County.

“A well-respected and recognized talent, Sandra’s tireless efforts have contributed to building a roadmap of a local system that will support sustainable early childhood quality that includes a focus on family engagement, quality professional development and early learning programs, and data-systems,” said Lucas.

Lamm and her family were notified of the award prior to her passing.
