Lauren is the President/CEO of Camp Fire First Texas. She began her role in October 2020. Lauren is a native Texan and a graduate of Highland Park High School in Dallas. She received her BA in Psychology from Southern Methodist University before moving to Los Angeles to pursue her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology at Loyola Marymount University. Lauren relocated back to Texas after completing graduate school and has lived in Keller since 2004.
Lauren started her nonprofit career at Educational First Steps in Dallas where she served as Director of Education. She worked for 5 years in the corporate arena working with school districts in the area of educational technology before returning to her nonprofit roots as Executive Program Director at The Family Place in Dallas. Lauren’s dedication to both education and social emotional health was fully realized when she became the Director of Therapeutic Services at Momentous Institute, as well as in her most recent role as Executive Director at Project Transformation North Texas.
Lauren has served on the Beyond ABC Advisory Board for Children’s Health, the Dallas City of Learning Advisory Committee for Big Thought and as an Accreditation Validator for the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). She was also the initial coordinator for the creation of the Texas School Ready program, a state-adopted system with ongoing professional development. She is married to John and they have five children, Brandon 30, Evan & Drew 28, Jack 15 and Grace 12.

My time as a Camp Fire camp counselor is something I’m especially proud of. I learned to never give up, to always keep trying…what I learned from Camp Fire has helped me of live my life with forward momentum. I keep trying to learn new skill sets. I don’t get stuck because I can always come back to the growth mindset that I learned from Camp Fire, and from my elders.

My son had many difficulties in 3rd grade, and he was so defeated by the end of the school year. He wasn’t excited about a new camp, but quickly changed his mind after the first day. He also won a Leadership Award, and for the kid that didn’t win anything all school year, it was so very meaningful. I saw some spark come back to my son, and I am a grateful mama.
