Camp Fire First Texas kicked off 2018 in a big way hosting a new board member orientation, board meeting, and director’s retreat at the Zem Neill Camp Fire Resource Center Thursday, January 25. The board of directors, leadership team and staff are pleased to welcome 10 new directors:

Katie Briggs                Anne Carvalho                      Michele Clark             Jason Helton

Jay Jackson                Chuck Mooney                       Russ Morris                Goldie Rhone

Derrick Thomas                     Carlos Walker

At the retreat, the board was presented with an overview of the strategic plan, staff goals for 2018, fundraising, and board responsibilities. The board was then led through a discussion to develop board goals for 2018. The day wrapped up with a charge to the board to do the following:

  1. Be Present. Attend meetings, attend special events, and bring guests.
  2. Speak Up. Diversity of perspectives and opinions will make us better.
  3. Think Outwardly. Let others know about the good work of Camp Fire & invite them to get involved.

Speaking of special events and being outwardly focused, board member Travis Patterson provided an overview of a new, fun, fundraising event to be held on April 5 at the new Top Golf near downtown Fort Worth. We have reserved an entire floor of bays for the Camp Fire Top Golf Tournament. There will be live music, food and drinks. Bay sponsorships start at just $2,500. Grab your colleagues or friends (or both) and come join us for a fun evening under the lights. To sign up or learn more, email [email protected] .

Finally, I’d like to also take this opportunity to offer a special word of thanks, on behalf of the board, the leadership team, staff, and volunteers, to Lauri Hadobas who wrapped up her final term as board chair. Incredibly, Lauri served three years as board chair and has served for ten consecutive years on the board.

During her years on the board, Lauri has:

  • Chaired multiple fundraising events
  • Made many, many calls for fundraising purposes
  • Chaired the CEO search committee
  • Assembled furniture at Diamond Hill Station
  • Greeted campers and their families at El Tesoro
  • Rode her bike with the mayor for a rolling town hall
  • Planted literally hundreds of daffodils
  • Celebrated our Centennial with the Gulick family – the founders of Camp Fire, and
  • Made more site visits than anyone can count.

Thank you Lauri, for your years of dedicated service!
