Research has shown that children enrolled in quality early childhood programs are better prepared with the skills and assets they need to succeed in school and later in life. For this reason, in 2005, Camp Fire launched the School Readiness program. This program is expanding to include targeted low-performing areas in the Fort Worth ISD.
School Readiness provides training and mentoring to child care teachers to:
- Improve child care teachers understanding of child growth and development and enable them to provide an environment that encourages children’s skill development
- Help child care teachers build child literacy skills and develop positive relationships with children
- Increase interactions between child care teachers and local schools to support children’s early learning and preparation for kindergarten
Teachers will also receive educational equipment and materials for their classroom based on resources needed to improve the quality of their learning environment.
The target audience for this program is caregivers of children birth to five years of age, including teachers at child care centers and family child care in selected Fort Worth ISD service areas. These include zip codes: 76103, 76104, 76105, 76106, 76107, 76111, 76112, 76115, 76116, 76119, 76120 and 76164.
